We (HIRRI) are dedicated to understanding how childhood adversity impacts mental health in Nepal’s youth. By combining global research with local insight, we aim to foster resilience and ensure every young person has the support to thrive.
Nepal’s children and youth face a complex web of challenges from emotional neglect to poverty, and from natural disasters to domestic violence. While these experiences leave lasting psychological scars, they do not have to dictate one’s destiny.
Our research investigates how childhood adversity translates into mental health outcomes such as depression, anxiety, and trauma and identifies the protective factors that enable resilience and recovery. By understanding both the pain and the potential, we aim to guide evidence-based interventions, inform national policy, and inspire community-led change.
Born from the need to confront childhood trauma, our work seeks to transform research into resilience.
To investigate the roots and impact of childhood adversity in Nepal through community-engaged research, and to foster resilience and mental wellbeing by informing evidence-based policies, raising awareness, and empowering youth and communities.
A future where all children and young adults in Nepal can thrive free from the long-term effects of trauma supported by equitable mental health systems, informed communities, and a strong foundation of resilience.
